Spring 2025 Player Options U8 to U12

Background:

The younger ages are critical years for a child’s development. Historically, a number of players at the end of the fall recreational season choose to continue with soccer and are looking for a program to join for the spring season.   We understand the importance sports has on the developmental of young children and therefore, WPFC has identified 3 soccer options for the 2024-2025 spring season for players born in 2013 through 2018.  Getting your player placed at the right level is very important for their continued growth in any sport.   Players gain confidence with success on the field.   Below are brief descriptions of the 3 options WPFC will be offering starting January 2025.

Washington Premier will be holding a supplemental evaluation session on December 8th at WPFC ‘s Complex located at 5702 44th Street E, Puyallup, WA  98371.  The session will be used to evaluate players to ensure  correct player placement in one of the three programs below.  The session will run from 1:00 to 2:30 PM, with player check-in opening up at 12:30 PM.   As we get closer to the evaluation date we may shift the window of time based on the number of players that sign up. The week following the tryouts, families will be notified of their child’s team placement and next steps to complete the registration process.   Practice for all programs will begin in January 2025.

Premier Program:

In WPFC’s Premier Program, we will be forming  a new boys and girls U8 teams  for players born in 2017 & 2018.  These  teams will be placed in the RCL league and will play 7v7 in the spring.  The premier program offers the most competitive level of soccer at the state level.  These teams will practice 3 times a week with games on the weekend and will be coached by premier staff.  This is open to players new to WPFC, players in our Jr. Program and Washington United recreational soccer program.    This is not for players currently playing in the RCL

U9 and 10 players will be evaluated and either placed on an RCL team roster or be eleigible for the Spring Development League.  Players that are already on an RCL team, should not be signing up for this evaluation session.

Spring Select Development Program:

For spring of 2025, we will be offering a spring option for those players currently not playing in the RCL but wanting a competitive environment with premier coaching.   The program will consist 2 practices per week beginning in January.  The team will play a 6 game season in the North Puget Sound League (NPSL) with games kicking off  in February and running through late March early April.   This program will have options for Boys and Girls U9 to U12 (birth year 2016 to 2013).

JR. RCL Program:

The tryout session will also serve as formation session for Junior RCL Program. The Junior RCL  program provides families with flexibility while at the same time provides a training environment for the more serious soccer player.   This session is for players born in birth years 2018 to 2016. In the Junior program, U8 teams will continue to play 4v4.  Starting in February, the teams will participate in Jamboree events with other local clubs.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why should I choose Washington Premier Football Club (WPFC) for the development my child's soccer skills?

Washington Premier is recognized nationally as one of the top youth soccer clubs in the country. The club has a focused coaching philosophy and player development pathway for players through age 18. WPFC owns their field complex which Includes 25 acres of grass fields, and (3) full size lighted turf fields which provides the ease of one venue for practice. WPFC offers a competitive fee structure with access to the highest level of competition in the country. WPFC consistently ranks as one of the top Regional Clubs in league and post season play results.

Why a 7 a side program for the U8 age group?

The RCL league has been very successful with the launch of the spring RCL U8 program.  This program provides a new opportunity for U8 players to experience 7 a side gameplay before the players begin a full year-round season in this format at u9. This program should be viewed as a bridge from the current 4v4 play at this age group to the 7v7 game format for those that are ready for it now.

Should I sign up my player up for the new U8 7v7 program or the JR. RCL program?

The  U8 7v7 division is for those players that are ready for the bigger field space.  Each player is different and some players will benefit more by staying on a smaller field.

Not all U8 players are ready for 7v7 play.  We suggest you come out to the supplemental tryouts on December 3rd and let the coaches evaluate your player and provide you with feedback relative to the best developmental pathway going forward for your child.

What does the schedule look like for the U8 7v7 RCL program?

The U8 program schedule will look similar to other RCL teams with a professional coach and training three days a week at our complex beginning in January. Games will be in the Puget Sound area and will start later in January and go through April.  The game and training schedule will be confirmed once teams are formed. As a rule of thumb, most U14 and below games are played on Saturday.

How much does the new U8 program cost?

The price for the spring season will be $540. $180 will be due upon accepting a roster spot (in December) with 2 additional installments of $180 due the 20th of the month in January and February. New players to WPFC will be required to buy a uniform kit, which will run approximately $60 before taxes and shipping and handling.

What if I paid in full for the Junior Year round program and my child is picked to be part of the Pilot U8 division?

After the December 3rd tryout, we will have a handle on where players landed and will look at each player’s financial status.

If a player is new to WPFC and is placed on the pilot team, the fee will be $540.

If the player is in the Jr. Program and selected the Fall only option and is placed on the U8 7v7 team the fee will be $540.

If the player is in the Jr. Program and selected the year round option and is placed on the U8 7v7 team,  the fees will be adjusted so the total amount paid equals $1,340.

Why the new Spring Development Program?

After the Fall season, there are many recreational and select players wanting to continue to play but want a more competitive option with premier level coaching.  This program will provide that opportunity.  It would be a natural transition for the player at the end of the spring season to tryout for Washington Premier’s premier program.

Why is the Spring Development program playing in the NPSL versus the RCL?

The RCL divisions and schedules are set at the start of the 2022/23 season.  We can add players to an existing team mid-season but we cannot add new teams to the age group and divisions as it would require all the schedules to be redone.

The NPSL provides a Spring season for new teams that is cost effective yet provides a competitive environment.

Why the NPSL versus SSUL?

The SSUL also offers a spring season.  After reviewing the timing and logistics of each league, the NSPL calendar better aligns with the trasition to the 2023-2024 season.

What are the travel requirements for the NPSL games?

The NPSL spring league will consist of 6 games and will be a mix of home and aways games.    The league tries to achieve equal balance on travel requirements.  All home games will be played at WPFC’s complex.   The locastion of away games will depend on the other teams placed in the division.  For younger teams, the league tries to minimize long distant travel to the best of their ability.

Will Jr RCL 4v4 option still be available?

YES!! Not all U8 players are ready to play 7v7 at this time and that is fine. The Jr RCL training environment and 4v4 games are still an important development program so this will continue as usual for  U8 and U9 age groups in the spring.   If you know you only want the Jr. RCL Program and do not want to be considered for the other opportunites, you do not need to sign up for the Dec. 3rd tryout and can sign up for the Spring Jr. RCL Program.  Click on the link below and select 2022/23 Junior RCL (U8 & U9).

If my child is currently in the Junior program and wants to tryout for the U8 7v7 team, do I still need to register?

Yes, you will need to register for the tryout. By registering in advance,  helps us to prepare and make sure we have enough coaching staff available to run the session and evaluate players.

How do I register and when are tryouts for the Spring opportunities?

The tryout session will be for all three programs and will be held on December 3rd at WPFC’s complex located at 5702 44th Street E, Puyallup, WA  98371.  The tryouts are  free and will be held on field 2 (A, B, C) from 10:30 AM to 12:00 PM.   Check-in for the tryout will open at 10:00 AM.

Registration is open now, click on the above button to Register Now and select (Will finalize)

When will I find out what program/team my child is place in and when will payment be due?

The week following the tryout/evaluation, you will be contacted and offered a roster spot in one of the three programs.   To finalize and accept your child’s spot you must make the the initial payment.  You will be sent a payment  link and will have the option to pay in full or select a payment plan.  The initial payment must be made to be eligible to practice in January.  All fees must be paid in full by February 20, 2023.
