Updated May 9, 9:25 am: Happy Friday, everyone. No time to visit this morning. We're proofreading schedules and checking them twice for conflicts. Still on track to publish today. When we do, you'll find them on the Schedules and Scores page. Managers, I'm sending you an update via e-mail this morning. Have a great weekend.
Updated May 8, 8:30 am: Good morning, kids. Brushing aside the cobwebs in the FC Royals and FC United catacombs, I discovered that the club typically published the tournament schedules two weeks before the event. I’m happy to report that we’re on track to publish tomorrow evening despite losing Riverside Elementary on Tuesday and yesterday abandoning our plan to play at Chief Leschi. The grass at Chief Leschi is growing only slightly faster than the 12 stray hairs on the top of my head. So, now all of the U-11 kids can play on the lush, green grass of the WPFC fields.
How the nice turn of events? I was sitting alone in my imaginary dugout, when it occurred to me that I needed to get up off the bench, pick up the phone and go to the bullpen for my ace scheduler, Dave Miller. He thought he was out, but I pulled him back in with the promise of some Rainer Challenge swag and a new Fox 40 whistle. Top man, that Dave! If you see him at the fields, take a moment to say thanks and offer to buy him a delicious elephant ear served fresh from the good folks at Duris.
Now that we’re back on track, the updated to do list looks a lot nicer, after highlighting the completed items:
1. Complete draft of revised master game schedule.
2. Try to solve game conflicts for the 24 coaches who are coaching 2 or more teams in the tournament. [In process]
3. Hatch a plan to get one of those snappy, new T-mobile Crossfire jerseys. Long sleeve XL, please.
4. Feed and groom Henry Robicheau’s alpacas.
5. Publish a little coffee and restaurant guide for places near the WPFC Complex. Click here to get it.
6. Publish a little coffee and restaurant guide for places near Keithley Middle School. Click here to get it.
7. Publish a 1-page Registration Checklist for the hardworking managers. Click here to get it.
Updated May 7, 8:05 am: Good morning, gang. Remember Ghostbusters 2? Not the one with the StayPuft Marshmallow man. The other one where the Ghostbusters discover that New York is once again headed for doom, with a river of ectoplasmic slime bubbling underneath the city and a really old dude trying to possess Dana’s baby? Yeah. I liked that one. Anyway, the Ghostbusters realize that there is so much negative energy in the city that the slime can only be destroyed by an equal amount of positive energy. So, they slime up the Statue of Liberty, bring her to life with some tunes and a wave of positive energy sweeps across the good people of the Big Apple. Yesterday was like that for me. Some very nice people sent me some very positive messages, and so we’re back on track.
The Rainier Challenge Welcomes Korum for Kids as a Presenting Sponsor
WPFC is proud to announce that we have entered into a sponsorship agreement with Korum for Kids Foundation for the 2008 Rainier Challenge. Over the last 16 years, the Rainier Challenge has grown into one of the Pacific Northwest’s premier soccer tournaments. "Today is a great day for WPFC," said Charlie Dent, Tournament Director. "We are honored to have a presenting sponsor as outstanding as Korum For Kids Foundation. Together this partnership will take our biggest annual event to an even greater level."
Among the activities planned for the Memorial Day Weekend tournament, attendees will have an opportunity to guess the correct number of soccer balls inside a car furnished by Korum Motors of Puyallup. The first three people to guess the correct number of soccer balls will win an iPod shuffle, and all donations will benefit Korum For Kids Foundation.
