ECNL National Event Series Sanford, FL
'95 & '94 ECNL hold their own
Washington Premier’s ECNL teams had a strong showing in Florida.  WP’s 95 and 94 Girls ECNL teams traveled to Florida the last week in December to participate in the season’s second ECNL National Event.  ’95 ECNL team led by Head Coach Scott Halasz, opened with a 1-0 victory over Birmingham United, won their second game 4-2 over Penn United before losing the last game to a strong Concorde Fire team from Atlanta 3-1.  Forward Mariah Lee of the 95 ’squad was named to the All Event U-16 Team.

The ’94 ECNL team led by Head Coach, Seth Spidahl, had an equally good showing as they easily handled the Blue Valley Soccer Club squad from Kansas City by a margin of 10-0, lost their second game to the Atlanta Fire 2-0, but finished strong with a 1-0 victory over FC Dallas.

The ECNL was founded in 2009 to enhance the developmental experience of female youth soccer players in the United States. This has been achieved by improving the competitive environment through the creation of a true national competitive league with multiple flights and by improving the process for identifying elite female soccer players for the U.S. Soccer youth national teams through a systematic scouting and identification program based on national competitions. ECNL events are heavily attended by college coaches and provide the female soccer player with a broad level of exposure.

Washington Premier is one of 66 clubs accepted into the ECNL league.  The club’s U15-U18 ECNL squads will be traveling to San Antonio in late February to participate in the third national event before opening league play in March.
