
(July 19, 2009) - USYOUTH President’s Cup National Final, Raleigh NC – WPFC ’94 White’s dream season ends in a 3-0 loss to Little Illini from Champaign , Illinois . WPFC had beaten the champions the night before in a must win group game 2-1 but did not have enough to beat the Illinois team in the title game. WPFC had an unprecedented U14 run that had them on the podium 6 times, 5 times as Champions! The teams success this year is attributed to their excellent work ethic, their determined spirit and overall love of the game. Coaches Nick Ruiz and Denise Merdich guided the team to success not seen since the Royals. The team will finally begin their U15 season July 31st ,2009 at the Federal Way Blastoff. Congratulations and accolades should be directed toward this special group of soccer players as they will be defending several titles this year namely the State title and Region IV title. Ladies, congratulations on a superb season!
(July 18, 2009) - WPFC ’94 White are through to the final of the 2009 President’s Cup Finals with a 2-1 win over Little Illini. Earlier in the day, the girls fell to FC Stars of Mass 0-3, but bounced back to defeat Little Illini. The victory, coupled with Greenville’s win over FC Stars of Mass, sealed their berth in the final on Sunday morning.
The preliminary round games are complete at the 2009 US Youth Soccer Presidents Cup Finals at the WRAL Soccer Complex in Raleigh, N.C., featuring teams in the Under-14 through Under-17 Boys and Girls age groups.
""The US Youth Soccer Presidents Cup Finals have kicked off with great success here in Raleigh, North Carolina, as each match has been challenging and evenly matched in the first day of games,"" said Ed Loucks, committee chairman of the US Youth Soccer Presidents Cup. ""The 32 teams have traveled from across the country to compete in this event for the experience of community, camaraderie and competition through sport, and tonight, we continued the theme of community and camaraderie at the player event as teams came together for fun, food and friendly soccer skills competitions.""
The Presidents Cup Finals features teams from 16 states including California, Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Missouri, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas and Washington. These teams have earned their way to the Finals via success at their US Youth Soccer Regional Presidents Cup events.
In today’s matches, teams from US Youth Soccer Region I came out on top with five wins, Region III teams were close behind with four and Regions II and IV each had three wins.
Following the morning games, teams met at Net Sports for a player entertainment event where players traded t-shirt and took part in friendly pickup games and skills competitions at the indoor sports complex. After the event, teams had the opportunity to experience another level of soccer by attending a Carolina RailHawks game.
Round robin games resume tomorrow at 8 a.m. and champions of the Presidents Cup Finals will be named on Sunday, July 19.
