Greg was identified early as a potential professional soccer player and moved to England to train with Leicester City of the English Premier League. After two seasons with the Foxes, Greg entered the North America Soccer League draft and was drafted in the First Round of the 1981 College soccer draft. He was the youngest player ever to be drafted by the Portland Timbers of the NASL at the age of 17.
Greg’s professional career included four years in the NASL with Portland Timbers, Montreal Manic and the Tulsa Roughnecks.
Highlights of Greg’s career in the NASL include two playoff games against the New York Cosmos in Montreal Olympic Stadium and Giant Stadium winning both games.
As the NASL folded in 1985, Greg’s professional career was taken indoors and outdoors in the Major Indoor soccer League and the Canadian Outdoor Soccer League.
Greg’s career indoor included time at Los Angeles Lazers, San Diego Sockers, Chicago Sting, Kansas City Comets and the Tacoma Stars.
Greg was voted as Kansas City Comets player of the year and was named captain of the Tacoma Stars.
Greg played two seasons with the Vancouver 86ers and was part of a North American professional sports record 44 consecutive games without a loss and won the Canadian Soccer League Championship as well as the North American Champions League winner.
Greg was a member of the Canada’s national team program from 1982 to 1988. He was selected to the 1986 FIFA World Cup team.
Greg appeared for Canada eight times in full international matches against Mexico (2), Wales, Greece, Iraq, Honduras and Belize. He also appeared in international friendlies against Everton of England and Huracan of Uruguay.
As a member of the 1986 World Cup team Greg has been inducted to the British Columbia Sports Hall of Fame and most recently inducted to the Canadian Soccer Sports Hall of Fame.
Greg was instrumental to the growth of the FC Royals, helping the club win two US Youth Soccer National Championships. Also, through his leadership, FC United was formed in 1996.
Under Greg’s leadership, Washington Premier F.C. was successfully formed by bringing the girls (FC Royals) and the boys (FC United) together in December 2005.
Greg is a certified United States Soccer Federation “A” License Coach and is an active committee member of the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.
Greg is currently WPFC's Administrative Director of Club Development.
